Quality of Life: Two Sensory Experiences

Is this your morning sensory experience?
Woman cyclingVisualize the inside of your car. It’s got a few fast food wrappers on the floor and that stain where you spilled your coffee last week.

Now smell the air. Is that exhaust fumes or a cup of milk your child left in the back seat?

Listen to the radio. You know, the one that was blaring when you first started the engine.

Feel the breeze on your face. That recycled air that flows through your engine.

How are you feeling now?  Stressed about traffic?  Angry at your fellow driver?

Let’s try another morning commute experience, this time you are walking, biking, or wheeling  to work.

Look around.  The whole world is there and you are out in it. There are green trees, sunshine and blue sky as far as you can see.

Now smell the fresh air and flowers. You can even see the colors as you pass by.

Listen to the birds. There sure are a lot of them out this early.

Feel the cool breeze on your face. It is fresh and feels nice.

There’s another person out actively commuting to work. Give them a wave and a smile as you go by.

I bet you are feeling better now. And here’s the really great part, you can experience the real thing everyday on a walk, wheel, or a bike ride around town. And, you can even taste some great food after your exercise since you just revved up your metabolism!

What a sensory experience!
