Ask Congress To Support Funds for Active Transportation in the Stimulus Package
The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is a nonprofit organization that works with communities to turn unused rail corridors into trails. Their mission is to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors to build healthier places for healthier people.
Rails to Trails is currently leading a petition drive to let the Obama administration know that there is significant support for funding of trail projects in the next economic stimulus package.
Language of the petition: I support explicit funding for trails, walking and biking in the upcoming economic recovery package. Funding active transportation is a cost-effective investment that creates jobs and leads to healthier people, stronger communities, decreased oil dependency, and reduced climate change emissions.
