Walnut Street Connector Usable Again!
Regular active commuters know the importance of safe, accessible connectors to get from one point in town to another. One popular connector is located at the east end of Walnut Street behind the Broadway Marketplace. There are many shops and businesses in that area and the connector allows those who live car free either by choice or necessity to reach it safely.
Recently the area became impassable after some construction work in the area left a lot of sticky, thick mud in the path. PedNet Educational Coordinator Robert Johnson knew how important that area is for active commuters and decided something needed to be done. After getting permission from the city, he organized his own clean-up and reconstruction project. Johnson, along with PedNet member Alvin Sweezer went out with shovels, rocks, and some gravel to make a new, usable path for pedestrians and bicycle riders. Thanks guys for making Columbia a great place to get around in again!
