First Half of the Logic Model
PedNet’s Logic Model for achieving social change consists of two mutually-reinforcing components: Programs and Advocacy. The programming component targets the community at large with encouragement, education, and marketing programs that create behavior change to a more active lifestyle.
Programs, such as Bike Walk and Wheel Week, Confident City Cycling, and Way to Go to Work, empower people to look at active transportation as a viable alternative to using a car. When those same people get out a
nd start using city streets and trails to reach their destinations, they begin to see the importance of good infrastructure such as bike lanes and accessible trails. They then take on the role of advocate and begin to work for change in the community.
When the changes take place, more people begin to use the new infrastructure and gain confidence in their ability to use active transportation. They then begin taking part in programming that further increases their abilities. The cycle repeats itself over and over again.
