Walking School Bus
The Walking School Bus is a program in which a group of children walk to and from school under adult supervision. The Walking School Bus concept was developed to enable children to have a safe, consistent system to walk to school on a regular basis, even when traffic, weather, and crime are concerns.
PedNet Coalition was recognized for having the largest, most systematic Walking School Bus program in the nation from 2005-2013. Eight schools participated with over 20 routes, including roughly 450-500 students and 200 volunteers each year.
This program was funded by Missouri Foundation for Health.
While this program is not currently running in Columbia, MO, we are operating programs in Kirksville and Ashland, MO and 15 programs in Kansas. We are currently looking towards business, organization and individual sponsors to fund a WSB program in Columbia, MO.
