Join the Columbia community in celebrating Bike Walk and Wheel Week by participating in West Middle School’s Bike to School Day on Friday, May 16th.
What: PedNet Coalition is encouraging all West Middle School (WMS) students and their parents/guardians to bike to school as part of the ongoing efforts of Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week that encourage active transportation.
When: Friday, May 16th
Why: If you’ve ever considered biking to school with your child, here’s your opportunity! We encourage all WMS students and their parents/guardians to bike to school. Upon arriving at the school in the morning, we will have a table set up with refreshments and prizes near the bike racks located on the side of the building for those who rode their bikes to school.
Concerned that you live too far from West Middle to bike the entire way? Consider driving part of the distance, park and bike the rest of the way! Gather friends and neighbors to do the same to make it a fun group ride.
Bike to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
