Advocacy Win: Missouri Bike Insurance Bill Withdrawn

Missouri House of Representatives LogoIn December, a member of Big Tree Cycling (BTC) tipped us off that a bill, HB 115, was introduced by Rep. Craig Redmon that would require all bicyclists and non-motor vehicles using Missouri state highways to carry liability insurance. If passed, this bill would be harmful to many bicyclists, particularly low-income who may not be able to afford insurance, it would be difficult to enforce, and it would add barriers to those commuting by bicycle.

Thanks to BTC, we were able to contact the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation and take the necessary action to stop this bill from passing. This month, we were informed the bill was defeated!
