Infrastructure Planning

Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plans

A Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan is a document that inventories current infrastructure, finds opportunities for new infrastructure, develops cost estimates and maps, prioritizes future projects, and identifies sources of funding.

This plan is nearly always the first and most important step towards making a community more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. PedNet believes that every plan should have two distinct purposes: one is technical and the other is inspirational.

A plan should be used to excite and educate citizens, elected leaders and even potential new funders. Colorful graphics, easily understood and attractive maps, and point-of-view renderings can make a tremendous difference between a plan that sits on the shelf and seeing infrastructure begin to be built.

We’ve developed both city and countywide bicycle and pedestrian master plans. Below is an example of a plan we created for Girard, Kansas.
