Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio to SMSGT Robert “Bicycle” Wilson, USAF (retired), an original Tuskegee Airman and Alma Wilson. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Fresno State University and a Masters of Science Degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Bob joined the United States Navy in 1980 and earned his Gold Wings as a Naval Flight Officer in 1982. Highlights of his 30 year career include serving as Commanding Officer of Fleet Air Electronic Reconnaissance Squadron SIX, NAS Jacksonville, Fla. as Commanding Officer Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico and as Commander, Fleet Activities Okinawa, Japan. His last tour of duty was as Professor of Naval Science at the University of Missouri. He retired as CAPTAIN in 2010. During his naval career he accumulated over 3000 flight hours and over 200 carrier landings while flying in the venerable EA-3B Skywarrior (the Whale) and the ES-3A Shadow.

Bob is an avid cyclist, something he picked up from his father. He has commuted by bike wherever he was stationed while in the Navy and since retirement participates in road, cyclocross, gravel and mountain biking. He and his partner Kristin Kopp, another avid cyclist, have also cycled the Italian Alps during the summer months.
